Did you know that there is in fact enough food in the world to feed everyone? According to the most recent report by the charity Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP), the UK produced┬áaround 9.5 million tonnes of food waste┬áin 2018. It is estimated that 70% of this total was intended to be consumed by people, with 30% classified as ÔÇ£inedible partsÔÇØ.
Worldwide, one third of all food produced is lost or wasted ÔÇôaround 1.3 billion tonnes of food ÔÇôcosting the global economy close to $940 billion each year. Up to 10% of global greenhouse gases comes from food that is produced, but not eaten. One in nine people do not have enough food to eat, thatÔÇÖs 793 million people who are undernourished and if one quarter of the food currently lost or wasted could be saved, it would be enough to feed 870 million hungry people.
We have always given and donated our leftovers and “waste” to those less fortunate and the homeless but we want to do more and that is where you come in. We have joined the Too Good to Go intiative!
